Students of Kyiv region will look for creative ways to solve environmental problems. On April 23, in Vyshneve, the start of the competition for the title of "ECO-SCHOOL OF THE YEAR 2019" of Kyiv region was announced.
"Caring for the environment is not only the task of companies, but also the business of everyone. It is necessary to cultivate a culture of consumption, responsible waste management and care for nature from an early age, because young people are the future agents of change. We hope that we will all learn to live in an eco-friendly environment. PepsiCo is working hard to involve as many students as possible in the separate waste collection project. This competition has already brought together children and adolescents from different regions of the country and is a good example of a practical and innovative approach to learning. ", - said Natalia Fesyun, Public Relations and Public Relations Manager at PepsiCo Ukraine.
The project also included a training on "Efficiency of sorting and implementation of ECOPATROLS", where trainers talked about the rules of waste management and taught school leaders to conduct training for peers to effectively implement sorting in schools.
“Our goal is to show that waste is a resource from which we can and should benefit from recycling. Thanks to such projects, Ukrainian children are aware of their participation in caring for the environment, they form a personal responsibility for their activities and its consequences. ", - said Julia Markhel, president of the international youth movement School Recycling World.
The organizers provided school teams with T-shirts, bandanas, information posters and presented a special textbook "School Recycling 2019", which will become the "constitution" of the project. The participants of the project will have many competitions and activities during 2019, for example, presentations of the best environmental practices in schools and the main event - the rating "Eco School 2019".
"An ecological way of life is not just a skill, it is a philosophy. Environmental education is not just learning to dispose of waste in different containers. Environmental education, above all, teaches thinking. Each of the rules of the concept of "Zero waste" encourages a non-standard look at the usual things, develops critical thinking and creativity. That is why this aspect of education is very important in today's world. "- said Ksenia Renchkovska, head of the School Recycling World in Ukraine.
The organizers aim to educate students about the environmental friendliness and benefits of sorting household waste, teach them to do it correctly and systematically recycle. The ultimate goal of all activities within the project is to create an environmentally responsible environment in schools, families and residents around the school, the National Strategy for Waste Management in cities and villages of Ukraine and spread this culture to all segments of the population. The teams that will be formed during this training will continue their work during 2019.
Organizational and methodological support of the project in 2019 is provided by the International Youth Movement School Recycling World, together with the public organization "Let's do it, Ukraine" with the support of the Executive Committee of Vyshneve City Council and general project partner PepsiCo in Ukraine.
